Too busy to focus on your health? Our providers share how they make it work

June 2, 2025

You asked:

How do I prioritize my own health when I’m too busy with my career, my family, and other responsibilities? Especially as the busy summer months approach?

Our providers answered:

Whether you’re juggling work, kids, travel, or all of the above, taking care of your health often falls to the bottom of the list. But it doesn’t have to. We asked a few members of the Rezilient care team how they stay healthy during hectic seasons, and their responses are full of smart, realistic advice that anyone can try.

Jeff’s take: Focus on the foundations and forgive yourself where you struggle

Jeff DePauli, Rezilient Medic

“I’m a big believer in staying active, even if that just means short walks. Getting enough sleep, managing stress, and making time outdoors all help me feel balanced. I also make a point to see a healthcare provider regularly for screenings and to stay on top of my medications.

Where do I struggle? Diet. I’m a foodie, so that’s my weak spot. But I’m working on it!”

Jeff’s tips:

  • Don’t underestimate short walks
  • Sleep and stress management go a long way
  • Consistency with check-ups and medication matters
  • It’s okay to have an area you’re still working on

Amy’s advice: Realistic routines make all the difference

Amy Kinsey, Rezilient NP

“As a working mom of four, I’ve learned that taking care of my health is essential, not optional. That doesn’t mean elaborate meal plans or hitting the gym every day. It means setting realistic goals I can stick with.

My go-to strategies:

  • Set a weekly goal you can actually meet (mine: 2-3 workouts per week)
  • Plan ahead: change into workout clothes early so you’re ready
  • Keep meals simple: my go-tos are yogurt, fruit, and fresh veggies
  • Include your family! I do at-home workouts and invite my kids to join

Pay attention to how good you feel when you make healthy choices. That feedback loop is so motivating.”

Amy’s tips:

  • Small wins = long-term success
  • Prep your environment to support your goals
  • Simplicity over perfection, especially with meals
  • Involve your family in your wellness when you can

Tyler’s tips: Start small, stay flexible, and schedule it like a meeting

Tyler Gaddis, Rezilient Medic

“As a health coach, I hear this question a lot, and I always say the same thing: you don’t need a total lifestyle overhaul. Just start small and stay consistent.

Some of my favorite strategies:

  • A 15-minute walk or a quick strength circuit at home is enough to make a difference
  • Treat health habits like appointments: block time for them on your calendar
  • Keep high-protein snacks and whole foods on hand, especially when you’re on the go
  • Don’t be rigid. If your routine gets thrown off, adjust. Swap a gym for a walk or make a quicker meal instead. Progress beats perfection.”

Tyler’s tips:

  • Healthy habits can (and should) be small and doable
  • If it’s scheduled, it’s more likely to happen
  • Stay flexible when life gets busy and keep the momentum going

Your health doesn’t have to be all or nothing

You don’t have to choose between your health and your responsibilities. The Rezilient care team proves that small, sustainable choices can make a big difference, especially when life is at its busiest.

Between packing a protein snack, walking during a call, or involving your family in your wellness routine, there’s always something you can do to support your well-being.
